3D Realms Announces Remaster of ‘Rise of The Triad’, Throwback Shooter ‘Hell Hunt’ And ‘Ion Fury’ Expansion

Much like a lot of developers this year, 3D Realms has taken their reveals online, and if you’re a sucker for first-person shooters, the Realms Deep showcase has you covered. Rather than list off individual games separately (that would take forever), here’s a rundown of what the first couple of days has produced.

Kicking things off is indie dev T19 Games, which has announced Hell Hunt, a retro FPS inspired by shooters like Quake and Blood. The game has its origins on itch.io (where you can play the demo), and has a Steam listing for your wishlisting needs. Hell Hunt tells the story of a Demon Hunter entering hell for revenge, and features throwback elements such as keycards secret areas and no health regeneration, but also borrows from Max Payne in the use of Bullet Time.

For Ion Fury fans, you can expect more from Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison in the near future. 3D Realms, 1C Entertainment, and developer Voidpoint have announced that the game will be receiving an expansion pack due out in 2021.

And in an “out of nowhere” move, 3D Realms and developers Destructive Creations and Apogee Software have announced Rise of the Triad Remastered for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. As to which PlayStation and Xbox consoles they’re referring to, that wasn’t made clear. What is clear is that this isn’t the 2013 remake, and much like what Nightdive Studios has been doing with older 90s shooters, ROTT is getting a facelift.

The game is a brand-new Source port of the 1995-released first-person shooter with widescreen resolution support, a classic mode, mouselook support, and revamped multiplayer. You can also expect this one in 2021.
