Liturgy Announce New Album ‘Origin of the Alimonies’, Share ‘Lonely OIOION’

Liturgy have announced their fifth studio album, Origin of the Alimonies. It’s described as a “cosmogonical opera-album” and it arrives November 20 via Hunter Hunt-Hendrix’s label YLYLCYN. Liturgy have also shared the first preview from the 7-track LP called ‘Lonely OIOION’. Check it out below, along with an album trailer and announcement video.

Origin of the Alimonies marks the follow-up to 2019’s H.A.Q.Q. and is the first album the band has released since Hunt-Hendrix came out as transgender earlier in 2020. Both albums were originally announced last year with a 2020 release date, but the band ended up surprise releasing H.A.Q.Q. while holding back Origin, which had previously been performed live as an opera.

The record will be accompanied by a new operatic film written, directed, shot, edited by, and starring Hunt-Hendrix. According to a press release, it “tells the story of a cosmogonical traumatic explosion between OIOION and SIHEYMN, a pair of divine beings whose thwarted love tears a wound from which civilization is generated, producing the Four Alimonies of the intelligible universe and the task of collective emancipation.”

In addition to singing and playing guitar, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix also produced Origin of the Alimonies. Her band for the lineup includes guitarist Bernard Gann, bassist Tia Vincent-Clark, and drummer Leo Didkovsky.
