Julia-Sophie has shared a new song called ‘I Wish’. It’s the first single from the Oxford-based artist’s forthcoming sophomore EP </3, and also appears as the opening track on the fifth edition of Slow Dance Records‘ annual compilation, which is out January 26. Check it out below, alongside an accompanying music video.
Julia-Sophie said of the new song in a statement: “I was brought up believing that life would be a certain way, but I’ve come to understand, through heart-ache, that these beliefs weren’t my own and that I was living a life that wasn’t mine; it was the life that other people dreamed of for me. Over the last year, I’ve had to fight and break hearts, to become the person I was meant to be; to live my own truth. I wanted to reflect this broken hearted journey in ‘I wish’, by breaking out of classic song structure and experimenting with form; life and love has it’s own journey, there are no rules and there shouldn’t be any expected structure. love, life and art should be free.”
</3 will follow Julia-Sophie’s debut EP y?, which we named one of our favourite EPs of 2020. Read our Artist Spotlight Q&A with the artist, and check out her pick in our recent feature 21 Artists on the Songs That Got Them Through 2020.
