The Kissing Booth 4: Could the Teen Franchise Return For A Fourth Film?

Fair warning, Kissing Booth fans: This might be your last chance to pucker up. As the third chapter in the uber-popular franchise finally hits Netflix, the teen rom-com’s stars Joey King, Jacob Elordi, and Joel Courtney are making all of us long for a lasting summer romance. But if you’re looking for more inspiration from King and co., this might be your last chance. The Kissing Booth‘s road, it would seem, ends here.

The franchise is based on Beth Reekles’ book series of the same name, and unfortunately the series features only three main installments, along with two spin-offs called The Kissing Booth Road Trip and The Beach House (A Kissing Booth Story). In other words, the source material has run out, making it extremely unlikely Netflix will green-light another Kissing Booth movie. But given the way KB3 ends, some fans might be wondering if there’s even the slightest possibility we’ll get a glimpse of Elle in college. Here’s what we know.

Elordi seems convinced his role is over and out.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Euphoria actor revealed he has no knowledge of a fourth Kissing Booth film, nor does he have any apparent desire to star in one. “This is really the last kiss,” he told the outlet.

But there’s plenty of story still left to explore.

The Kissing Booth‘s sequel left off as Elle was accepted to both Berkley and Harvard. The third film, of course, focuses on her decision—between colleges and between men. Even though Elordi shut down rumors of any follow-up, if confirmed for a fourth movie, Kissing Booth 4 could focus on Elle’s freshman year—and the challenges of dating in college.

King told Entertainment Tonight, “Elle has a lot of figuring out to do… in the end, she gives herself even more figuring out to do, which is crazy. We don’t know what’s going to happen… I don’t know why she does that.” King also mentioned she doesn’t know what the future holds for Elle and Noah, “Things change, things happen, and I don’t know where their story will take them.”

Marco Valentin Peña (Taylor Zakhar Perez), Elle’s almost-love interest in the sequel, does make an appearance in Kissing Booth 3. (No spoilers!) If explored, a fourth film could chronicle Elle’s continued relationship with Marco for a change, rather than continuing her hijinks with Noah or Lee.

There could always be a spin-off.

Even if there’s not a fourth Kissing Booth film, there’s always a good chance the story could return as part of a spin-off or TV series. Considering the franchise’s popularity, Netflix would be hard-pressed not to try and milk the tale for as long as it pays. King will be busy over the next few years—she’s starring in the films Bullet Train and The In Between, as well as multiple other projects, including the adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s popular teen series Uglies—but that doesn’t mean another actress couldn’t fill the shoes of a lovestruck high-schooler like Elle. Plus, if Reekles keeps writing, there’s always room for a good old-fashioned reboot.
