WomenOutloud! : Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown recently turned 18, but she rose to fame as a child on the hit Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’. The show earned her two Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Brown is one of the youngest nominees for the award. She’s also built herself a successful portfolio of films, appearing in blockbusters like Godzilla: King of Monsters and Enola Holmes. Millie has even launched her own cosmetics line, Florence by Mills. Her accolades don’t end there though, In 2018, Brown was featured in the Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people, and was also appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, the then youngest person to be selected for this position.

Millie was born in Marbella, Andalusia, Spain, the third of four children of English parents, Kelly and Robert Brown. The family moved to Bournemouth, Dorset, when Brown was around four years old, and then to Orlando, Florida, four years later. At 8 years old her family enrolled her at an acting workshop to tide by the lazy weekends. She instantly stood out and a top Hollywood talent scout noticed her. “She has instincts you cannot teach,” he said to Millie’s parents and urged them to support her acting talents. Her parents promptly packed the family up and moved to Los Angeles, where Millie started meeting with Hollywood’s top children’s talent agencies.

She landed her very first role in BBC America’s show, ‘Intruders’, just off a home-shot audition tape. The producers didn’t even need a face-to-face meeting. Once she landed her role as Eleven on the hit Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’, Millie Bobby Brown quickly became a force to be reckoned with.  ‘Variety Magazine’ commended Millie for ‘the kind of presence some actors take a lifetime to acquire. She is about to be cast in a lot of projects.’ From chic fashion statements to music videos, she is proving to be a major source of inspiration to children and grownups alike.
