Top Video Games Genres: Choose Your Favorite

Video games have come a long way, and with technological progress comes better ways of developing games. Such is the nature of gaming that even sites like Hit N Spin have casino titles that were not possible in the past.

There are many game genres out there, so it is a good idea to determine which ones are at the top. Today, we will take a look at the top game genres of all time.

1. First-Person Shooter

First-person shooting games include the following:

  • Sniper-themed.
  • Battle Royale.
  • War-themed like Call of Duty.

Many games of this sort may have an open-world setting, but then they all are focused on shooting. They may also have stories, but the main role you have to play is to ‘shoot’ enemies.

The beauty of these shooting titles like these is that one can live the life of a soldier or a hitman. These games also expose the player to guns, grenades, and other military weaponry. Most importantly, they are action-packed and fast-paced.

Some are leaning towards stealth, like Hitman, which makes the game harder. Although most people prefer a fast-action shooting game, there are still those who prefer to use brains over brawl. It is why stealth sniper games are always a staple in the shooting genre.

2. Role-Playing Game

Commonly known as RPG, the biggest titles in this genre are:

  • Assassin’s Creed.
  • Grand Theft Auto.
  • The Elder Scrolls.
  • Diablo.

RPGs are popular because they have a story to tell. They also boast an open world where players do not need a sequential or linear path to play. In most cases, fans are more interested in side quests than the main mission.

When playing RPG, you will realize that you do not really want to progress in the game. In some situations, you must also perform side quests to either get stronger or to open new possibilities.

3. Sports

The biggest sports games are:

  • Boxing.
  • FIA.
  • Tennis.
  • Basketball.

Recently, MMA has been making the rounds. MMA now ranks as the third most popular sport next to soccer and basketball. For context, there are 451 million people who watch MMA. Soccer, on the other hand, has 901 million fans.

Most MMA games revolve around the UFC, and the biggest one so far is the EA Sports UFC 5. There are other titles that carry a different promotion, like Pride. Of all these games, the UFC 3 by EA is said to be the best MMA game ever made.

4. Fighting

Although MMA is also a fighting game, it is a real sport, so we placed it in the sports category. So far, the best fighting games are:

  • Mortal Kombat.
  • Injustice.
  • Street Fighter.
  • Tekken.

Fighting-themed titles have a big fan base because they are not simple to play. You need super-fast reflexes to succeed in a fighting game.

In many e-Sports events, the most anticipated is a fighting game. Another reason why fighting games are popular is the character. Players tend to lean toward a character that has the same personality as they do.

All fighting games today have storylines, and it is what players love. Those who play can get a back story of what the characters are fighting for. The storylines are also elaborate, which adds to the excitement of the users.

As devices and technology improve, we are certain that new genres will come into play. For one, Virtual Reality never existed in the past, but it does now. Over the long run, we are predicting that there will be more titles that will involve the human body and mind, such as augmented reality games.
