Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Release Dates of November 12 and 19th

Sony has countered Microsoft’s reveal of the Xbox Series X last week by announcing today that the PlayStation 5 will hit retail on November 12th for North America, Japan, and parts of Europe and Asia, while launching worldwide on November 19th. As for prices, Sony has put the base unit at $499 USD, and $399 USD for the digital version.

Sony however did not confirm pre-orders or a launch lineup (though Geoff “my best friend is Kojima” Keighley confirmed via Twitter that Demon’s Souls is a launch title, and that pre-orders are open tomorrow at “select retailers”), so we’re only left to speculate. The former note does give credence to the earlier rumour (that Sony had shot down) that there have been production issues with the upcoming console’s custom-designed system-on-chip, resulting in a decrease in production and Sony lowering the initial number of units to be produced.

Nonetheless, the stage is set. What are you thinking for launch?
