One of the big rumors in regards to Godzilla vs. Kong has centered on Mechagodzilla, with many fans speculating that the film will bring the Kaiju character into Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Mechagodzilla first appeared in1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, presented as a sort of mechanical anti-Godzilla who has frequently served as Godzilla’s adversary.
You may have spotted what certainly *looks* to be Mechagodzilla in the opening seconds of today’s Godzilla vs. Kong trailer, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The trailer goes on to suggest that Godzilla has essentially turned mega-evil and nobody is sure why, but could it be that it’s actually Godzilla’s mech-doppelganger who’s wreaking havoc here?
And will Godzilla and Kong eventually team up to fight this new foe? It’s all speculation on our part at this time, but the trailer sure seems to be suggesting something of the sort…
Check out a few screen-grabs from the trailer below.
Godzilla vs. Kong will be unleashed in theaters and HBO Max on March 26.
