“Clarice”: Four Million People Tuned in for the Premiere of the ‘Silence of the Lambs’ Sequel Series

Clarice Starling is back (on the small screen, this time) in new CBS series “Clarice” (read Meagan’s review), which is set one year after the young agent took down Buffalo Bill. The series looks to be somewhat of a fairly standard police procedural only with a Silence of the Lambs reskin this time, with Rebecca Breeds doing a great job channeling a young Jodie Foster.

We’ve learned today that 4 million people tuned in to watch “Clarice” live on CBS last night, winning the 10pm time slot. No doubt many were encouraged to tune in after CBS promoted the hell out of the series premiere during the Super Bowl this past Sunday night, airing multiple spots that heavily played up the fact that “Clarice” is a sequel to the Oscar-winning film.

“Clarice” debuted with a .05 rating in the key 18-49 demographic.

For the sake of comparison, NBC’s “Hannibal” premiered to 4.36 million viewers back in 2013, eventually dropping to 1.24 million viewers for the finale of the third/final season.

If you missed the premiere, you can watch the episode in full down below.

In the ’90s-set series, “A year after rescuing Catherine Martin (Marnee Carpenter) from the horror of Buffalo Bill’s basement, FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) gets an urgent assignment from Catherine’s mother, Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), to join the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) in the investigation of three serial killings. The series premiere of Clarice, “The Silence is Over,” also stars Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter.”

Watch new episodes of “Clarice” on Thursdays at 10/9c on CBS and CBS All Access.
