‘Godzilla vs. Kong’: Creature Concept Artist Shares a Nice Clear Look at the Film’s MechaGodzilla Design

The movie has been out for a couple weeks now so it’s probably safe to mention that MechaGodzilla does indeed make an appearance in Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong, which was never all that much of a secret anyway. Various toy reveals had spilled the beans months ago, to the point that the trailers even started giving us glimpses of the man-made monster.

Cooked up in a lab, MechaGodzilla is introduced in the film’s final act to fight both Godzilla and King Kong, with the two beasts ultimately working together to defeat the evil creation that had kick-started their own fight in the first place. Long story short, it was the construction of MechaGodzilla that made Godzilla mad, resulting in Kong being brought off Skull Island.

From there, the two beasts battled before joining forces to take down Mecha-G.

Concept artist Jared Krichevsky has taken to social media to show off his MechaGodzilla design, which is the one that was used by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment in the movie. “Greatest pleasure of my life designing Mechagodzilla,” Krichevsky explains.

He continues, “This keyframe was what kinda made the team take notice as they kind of looked at each other in the room in a “not bad” expression. It was electrifying and he really didn’t change much after this. Lots more to share on the way so stay tuned!”

Adam Wingard himself ended up commenting on the photo, revealing that the “not bad” expression Krichevsky describes wasn’t quite an accurate reflection of his feelings. “Our poker face must have been terrible. This design was so far ahead right away,” Wingard explains.
