Scott Derrickson’s New Horror Movie ‘The Black Phone’ Gets an Early 2022 Release Date

Scott Derrickson (Dr. Strange, Sinister) is headed back to the horror genre to direct The Black Phone for Blumhouse and Universal, and today a release date has been provided.

The Black Phone will release in theaters on January 28, 2022.

Ethan Hawke (Sinister) and James Ransone (Sinister, It: Chapter Two) lead the cast, which also includes Jeremy Davies (“Hannibal”), Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw.

“Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

Derrickson and frequent collaborator Robert Cargill (Bermuda, Doctor Strange, Sinister) adapted the script based on Joe Hill’s short story.

Derrickson, Cargill and Jason Blum, for Blumhouse, are producing the film. Universal and Blumhouse will present the Crooked Highway Productions. Joe Hill is an executive producer
