The Boys Season 5: Cast, Release Date & News

About two months ago, the fourth season of The Boys, consisting of eight episodes, was released on Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video. Worldwide, the show has accumulated over 55 million viewers in only 39 days since its premiere and over 1.3 billion views in its final week — breaking major streaming records. To stay updated about the upcoming season, here’s what you need to know about the season 5 cast, release date, and other intriguing news about the TV show.

The Boys storyline

Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the series features a wicked variation of superheroes treated as celebrities and as gods. All the superheroes (The Seven) are managed by Vought International, which is a multibillion-dollar conglomerate that covers up the superheroes’ abuse of power and dirty little secrets. As a response, a group of vigilantes, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), undertake a heroic quest to expose the truth about the organization and change the public’s view of The Seven as real heroes. Little do they know that their plan to exploit the superheroes is not a walk in the park, as they would have to deal with the real menace of the story — Homelander (Antony Starr).

Cast

Similar to its release date, there are still no specifics about whether there will be a full reunion of the cast as fans constantly call for it, but most likely, every fan-favorite still alive listed below will return.

  • Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
  • Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell
  • Antony Starr as John/Homelander
  • Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight
  • Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train
  • Laz Alonso as Marvin Milk/Mother’s Milk
  • Chace Crawford as Kevin Moskowitz/The Deep
  • Tomer Capone as Serge/Frenchie
  • Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female
  • Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett
  • Cameron Crovetti as Ryan Butcher

Rumors are also circling about the possible appearance of Jared Padalecki in the next season.

Release date

Due to the R-rated show being a masterclass in mixing intense action, snarky comicalness, and dark humor, Amazon Prime Video has already officially announced season five of The Boys only a few days before the release of its fourth season last June 13. The series showrunner and head writer Eric Kripke stated that the show would take about two years to finish.

“We’re just figuring it all out now with the writers…we spent the first probably four weeks of the room just talking about like overall mythology and where we want the story to go,” Kripke told Deadline in an interview.

Fans can expect season five to be released in the summer or fall of 2026.

What will happen in the final season?

Head Writer Eric Kripke has not made any major spoilers for the awaited finale, but he hinted that there could be a lot of deaths since they don’t have to keep them alive for another chapter. He also indicated that it would not be fun for Homelander for he will still be miserable.

The viewers can anticipate the ending they deserve as Amazon entrusted the wheel to its creators.

“I am very grateful to Amazon for giving me the opportunity to end it on our own terms, but for sure, I feel lots and lots of pressure to end it well. Because I think if we can stick the landing, then people will be like, ‘That’s a great show!’ But if we s— the bed, people will say, ‘Oh, it was a good show, but they s— the bed,” Kripke explained to Deadline.

Is Soldier Boy returning in The Boys season 5?

After going MIA in season four of the series, Kripke revealed that Jensen Ackles will make a comeback as Soldier Boy, Homelander’s biological father, in the next chapter. The head writer could not imagine the season ending without him returning. Soldier Boy’s comeback was teased in a post-credit scene of season four, wherein he was lying in a drug-induced slumber.

Will there be more of The Boys after season 5?

Unfortunately, the renewal of the series for a fifth season is a bittersweet moment for the show and the audience. While the fans will enjoy a continuation of the story, it will also signify the end of the journey. Kripke tweeted last June that season five would be the final chapter and that it had always been his plan ever since season three. He simply wanted to wait for everything to be clear with Amazon and now he can finally give the series a gory, epic conclusion.
