Don McLean Is Very Worried About Taylor Swift

A long, long time ago, there was a song that changed the scope of music at the time. A song that represented a dark day in music, the day the music died. “American Pie” by Don McLean has become a staple in American music history.

Now, the singer of that song has spoken up and let everyone know he sees something concerning in Taylor Swift‘s future.

“American Pie” Singer Don McLean Is Extremely Worried About Taylor Swift’s Mental Health: Here’s Why

In an exclusive interview with The Standard UK, McLean made some statements that might surprise some. First off, the “American Pie” singer is a huge fan of Taylor Swift.

Not that that is a bad thing, but it is just an unexpected thing. When McLean was first asked about Swift in the interview, he gushed about the “Cruel Summer” singer.

“She is a person who is an example of what talent and really hard work can accomplish,” he stated.

That says a lot, especially from someone like McLean, who has sold more than 50 million records in his lifetime.

Why Is Don McLean Concerned for Taylor Swift’s Mental Health?

In the interview, McClean gets into how he is worried for Swift’s mental health, mainly because of how much she is working and the pressure that her success has likely brought onto her.

McClean said, “Show business and fame — as Elvis said ‘fame and fortune’ — and I’m very fortunate that I’ve had that, I know how to do that. I have a lot of interests and they sustain me. I don’t go around thinking, ‘Man, why don’t I have this?’ or ‘Why don’t I have that?’ That is the quickest way to be unhappy I can think of.”

It’s a burden that most of us will never know the feeling of, but it’s not just making the next hit record, or performing to a sold-out crowd that always wants more, it’s also about the weight that a star like Swift must carry. The weight of employing so many people, and keeping food on those people’s family’s plates, and making sure that you are being a positive role model at all times.

McLean went on to say,  ”A lot of people think show business is just something, ‘Oh, you’re so wonderful, you should be a star,’ Taylor Swift was a star for 15 years before she became a monster star, the size of the galaxy for God sake.”

According to People.com, McClean connected with Swift back in 2021 when the 14-time Grammy winner pop star sent him a note and flowers after her 10-minute version of “All Too Well” broke one of his music records for “American Pie” as the Billboard Hot 100’s longest-running No. 1 entry.

Swift seems to be managing her billionaire status pretty well from what we can see in the public eye, but only time will tell if she will sustain such status and keep her mental health in check.
