Marcus King Pays Tribute to Marshall Tucker Band With ‘Can’t You See’

The jam concluded the guitarist’s 2024 Family Reunion festival, featuring Nikki Lane, Sierra Ferrell, and more

Marcus King wrapped up his two-day Family Reunion festival in his native South Carolina this weekend by paying tribute to one of the all-time great Southern rock groups: the Marshall Tucker Band.

Backed by original Marshall Tucker drummer Paul T. Riddle, King and an array of special guests delivered renditions of the Spartanburg, South Carolina, band’s songs. Kashus Culpepper sat in for “Searchin’ for a Rainbow,” Sierra Ferrell interpreted “Take the Highway,” and Nikki Lane crooned “Fire on the Mountain.” King’s father, Marvin King, also joined in for the performances, including the cast finale of “Can’t You See.”

In a video posted to the Family Reunion’s Instagram, King is shown shredding a fiery solo as the ensemble sings the chorus behind him. Other performers on “Can’t You See” included Ethan Regan and Darby Wilcox, who played on Day 1 of the festival. (The Avett Brothers, Band of Horses, and Britti also performed their own sets.)

King released his latest album, Mood Swings, in April. Produced by Rick Rubin, it found the guitar-slinger setting aside his instrument in favor of piano, strings, and lush production on songs like “F*ck My Life Up Again,” “Bipolar Love,” and “Save Me.”

Following the Family Reunion, King shared a highlight reel of the weekend set to his song “Goodbye Carolina,” off his 2018 album with the Marcus King Band, Carolina Confessions. “Can’t say it enough — to all of my friends and fam who showed up to make this happen, I’m grateful beyond words. What a weekend y’all. Let’s do it again next year!”
