Watch Shania Twain Open People’s Choice Country Awards With the Ultimate Tease

As the intro to “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” blared behind her, the host was lowered from the rafters to join a cadre of male dancers — but not perform

To be fair, when the People’s Choice Country Awards announced Shania Twain as their host for 2024, they never said the country music pioneer would perform. But Twain’s opening — choreographed, dramatic, and over the top — sure got our hopes up that one was coming.

As the synth intro to Twain’s signature hit, “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”, sounded like a country clarion call, the singer was lowered from the rafters of Nashville’s Opry House inside the silhouette of a heart to join a troupe of 10 male dancers in matching Western wear. Twain was dazzling in a white fringe outfit, topped by an equally resplendent cowboy hat. Upon leaving her perch, she declared, “Let’s do this!” — and then proceeded to do a small dance capped by a twirl while “Man!” continued to play.

It was campy fun, but it also left us (and judging by the look on his face, Machine Gun Kelly) wishing for more. Following the mega-tease, Twain got down to what she was hired to do, host an awards show.

Twain has been on the road most of the summer, along with continuing her Las Vegas engagement — Come on Over – The Las Vegas Residency — at Planet Hollywood on the Strip. In July, she performed at Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. in the “legends slot,” opening with “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and rolling through staples like “I’m Gonna Getcha Good!,” “Any Man of Mine,” and “Honey, I’m Home.” She saved the most euphoric hit for the end, closing with “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Twain’s Vegas residency carries on into 2025.
