See Tyla’s Riveting Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Performance

Tyla put on a show for Victoria’s Secret’s grand return, taking the stage at the lingerie brand’s runway event this evening in New York City. The singer, outfitted in a gold bra, panties, and big white feather wings, sang “Push 2 Start” and “Water” as models strolled past her.

She made her own grand entrance, too:

Tyla was one of three female performers at the brand’s first fashion show since 2018. Cher and Lisa also sang.

Tyla spoke to ELLE for our October 2024 cover story about how she became enamored with South African pop music, amapiano, while growing up in the country. “When amapiano would come on, we would see everybody’s moves just change. Seeing the energy of it…it felt so spiritual,” she said. “I always wanted to mix it with other styles that I enjoy, like R&B and pop—and make it my own.”

She also wanted to introduce the rest of the world to it: “I felt it was so special, and it needed to be shared,” she said. “I did my own version of it in hopes of getting people to go deeper and discover the other artists we have and the origins of my sound.”

Becoming a singer was a longtime dream of hers, she added: “It’s something I always really wanted, for myself, and for Africa, and for the world. Something different, something original. I also just wanted to dress up. I’m not always inspirational, guys!”

As she becomes more famous, Tyla is guarding control of her career. “I’m very involved in everything that I do: my sound, my image, what I wear, what I look like,” she said. “It does matter, and it does matter that it goes with how I’m feeling, and it ties in with the music. Because at the end of the day, I’m an artist. I model, but it’s on the side.”
