‘Zeus’ – ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Director to Helm Canine Creature Feature

The cast for Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that Lola TungNicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette have rounded out the cast members of the anticipated sequel.

The slasher franchise will return to theaters on July 18, 2025.

The actors join previously announced cast members Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. Freddie Prinze Jr. is confirmed to reprise his role from the original movies; Jennifer Love Hewitt is in talks to return as well.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is on board to direct the new installment in the franchise for Sony, with Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.) writing the original draft of the screenplay. The latest draft, however, was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson & Sam Lansky.

Jim Gillespie directed the original I Know What You Did Last Summer back in 1997, written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and based on Lois Duncan’s novel. The film spawned sequels in 1998 and 2006. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. only came back for that first sequel. A direct-to-video third installment of the franchise, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, is considered standalone with no returning cast members.

The original film follows four young friends- played by Prinze Jr., Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe- who are separated by a tragic accident but reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.

Alexander Chavez recently stole scenes in Ryan Murphy’s limited series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story and  Grotesquerie. Austin Nichols is known for his role in The Walking Dead, while Lola Tung stars in The Summer I Turned Pretty. I Know What You Did Last Summer will mark model and musician Gabbriette’s film acting debut.

More recently, the franchise returned with Amazon’s short-lived television series.
