How to Watch New Episodes of Landman

On November 17, Paramount+ brought us the new original series Landman from co-creators Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and Christian Wallace. Based on the 11-part podcast “Boomtown” by Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, Landman is a modern-day drama set in the fortune-seeking oil business of West Texas. The series stars Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thorton as Tommy Norris, Emmy-Award winning Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as oil titan Monty Miller, and Golden Globe nominee Demi Moore (Capote and the Swans) as Cami Miller, wife of Monty and close colleague of Tommy.

As per Paramount+’s synopsis, Landman tells a story of ambitious “roughnecks” and ruthless “wildcat billionaires” chasing wealth as a boom in oil rigs begins to populate the state, imposing cataclysmic influence on the climate, economy, and geopolitics. At the nexus of the series is crisis executive Tommy Norris (Thorton), who is determined to elevate his company to the forefront of the surge in oil production. Thorton told Vanity Fair that he was drawn to the opportunity to explore a character whose life is falling apart at the cost of running an empire. “There aren’t really a lot of scenes where my character comes home and says, ‘My God, was my day amazing…I slink into the house every day like somebody just beat the hell out of me.”

While the oil-rigging industry is typically a male-dominated occupation, the series itself does more than illuminate the gritty business of men in their race for success; it also illustrates how the women in their lives shape the direction of the story. “Cami is somebody who is not involved in the business but is running their entire life,” says Demi Moore, currently in the midst of a career renaissance, of her character. The actress signed herself up for a multi-season contract from the very beginning, based on Sheridan’s track record alone. “He writes incredible, complex, dynamic and delicious women who are powerful, vulnerable, flawed.”
