After Helldivers 2 went out in February 2024, Sony broke the PC release record set by God Of War in 2018. Sony Studios sold over 12 million copies of the game in three months, making it their most successful release. Now Sony says it’s gonna be made into a movie.
IGN reports that the head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash said via IGN at tech event CES last night: “I’m excited to announce that Sony Pictures is developing a film adaptation of Helldivers 2, our amazingly popular PlayStation game.”
The series follows a group of soldiers defending Super Earth from revenge-driven attacks by Automatons and the mysterious alien race known as The Illuminate in the 22nd century, after a fascist Super Earth won the First Galactic War. It follows a group of soldiers trying to contain a breakout of Terminds from galactic farms.
There’s no more information about Helldivers 2, but the game was based on Starship Troopers, a sci-fi action flick from 1996. It’s based on Heinlein’s 1959 novel. This movie is set in the 23rd century and follows rebellious teenager Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) joining the United Citizen Federation military, where he ends up fighting an alien species called the Arachnids.
