Grainne Uaile Is Worldwide March 17th

Releasing worldwide on March 17th, this four-hour epic is a historical spectacle you won’t want to miss. Directed and written by Ciaron Davies, and starring Fionnuala Collins as the fierce and legendary Irish pirate queen, Grace O’Malley, this movie takes you on a brutal and gritty adventure through 16th-century Ireland.

Shot on breathtaking locations across Ireland, both north and south, on land and sea, this film vividly retells the life of the formidable Grainne Uaile. A woman who carved her legacy in a man’s world with her strength, intelligence, and uncompromising nature.

“We wanted to create a strong female-driven movie,” says director Ciaron Davies. “Often, women in film are seen as victims or love interests. This movie is different. Grainne is tough, brutal, uncompromising, and intelligent. She is also feminine and stylish. This is a very empowering female. The men around her are all uniquely interesting, helping to create a rich tapestry of life in 16th-century Ireland. Bring a sword; you’re going to need it!”

Grainne Uaile – The Movie is a savage, brutal, and often darkly comic film that explores the extraordinary life of this legendary pirate queen. From her early childhood and youthful years as a clansman’s wife to her career in piracy, politics, intrigue, and her famous encounter with Queen Elizabeth, the film spans 70 years of drama and violence both on land and sea.

Grainne Uaile is depicted as an ultimate female action hero, fiercer than the men around her, portrayed brilliantly by Fionnuala Collins, who brings a blend of charisma, style, and intensity to the role. The fighting scenes are fierce, fast-paced, and designed to make the audience feel part of the action.
The film features a stellar cast, including Ciaron Davies as Richard Bingham, Sean Simon, and Mark Davis. The actors performed their own stunts and swordfights, adding authenticity to the elaborate and tension-filled battle sequences.

“Filming was grueling and physically demanding, often taking place in freezing conditions in the middle of nowhere,” recalls director Ciaron Davies. “Everyone pushed their physical abilities to the limit.”
Grainne Uaile – The Movie is a roller coaster ride set against the rich and complex backdrop of 16th-century Ireland. It promises to make you laugh, cry, and cheer for the fierce pirate queen as she navigates a treacherous world of politics and warfare.
