There’s so much music coming out all the time that it’s hard to keep track. On those days when the influx of new tracks is particularly overwhelming, we sift through the noise to bring you a curated list of the most interesting new releases (the best of which will be added to our Best New Songs playlist). Below, check out our track roundup for Friday, January 31, 2025.
JENNIE & Dominic Fike – ‘Love Hangover’
BLACKPINK’s JENNIE has linked up with Dominic Fike for a smooth, funky new single called ‘Love Hangover’. Set to appear on the BLACKPINK star’s debut studio album Ruby, the track comes paired with a music video directed by Bradley & Pablo and co-starring Riverdale’s Charles Melton.
Free Range – ‘Hardly’
The piercing vulnerability of Sofia Jensen’s songwriting shines through on ‘Hardly’, the lead single from their upcoming Free Range album Lost & Found. “I hardly notice when I measure you against me/ But I could tell when you were pulling me through the darkness in this room,” they sing. “‘Cause all I wanted was just someone to look to/ You hardly notice when I glance at you.”
Frog – ‘JUST USE YOUR HIPS VAR. VI
Playfully off-kilter and danceable, ‘JUST USE YOUR HIPS VAR. VI’ is the latest single from New York band Frog’s upcoming LP 1000 Variations on the Same Song. It follows earlier offerings ‘DID SANTA COME VAR. IX’ and ‘MIXTAPE LINER NOTES VAR. VII’.
Hachiku – ‘Fun for Everyone’
Melbourne-via-Germany-via-Detroit artist Anika Ostendorf, aka Hachiku, has a new song out called ‘Fun for Everyone’, the final single from her forthcoming album The Joys of Being Pure at Heart. Ostendrof describes the song as “a little bit sexy, a little bit raunchy”; it’s also satisfyingly propulsive and tensed-up.
Desire – ‘The Judge’
If you came out of The Weeknd’s 22-track pop opera Hurry Up Tommorow wanting more nocturnal synthpop, well, there’s a new Desire track out today. In a press release about the intoxicating ‘The Judge’, the group said: “In the age of omnipresent surveillance… Machines track our every move while friends stalk our every groove. Take matters into your own hands… be the judge & jury of your own timeline. Life is too short, so forget the lurkers & love the jerkers. Time is running out & court is now adjourned.”
Maya Delilah – ‘Squeeze’
Maya Delilah, a 24-year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist from North London, has announced her debut full-length, The Long Way Round. Out March 28, it’s led by the slinky and ecstatic single ‘Squeeze’. “This album is a combination of so many parts of me,” Delilah shared. “I get so influenced by different genres, people, places, and experiences that it’s always felt hard for me to fit my music into a consistent sound or mood. It took me a long time (hence The Long Way Round) to realize that it’s a beautiful thing to have a body of work that explores so many different influences.”
