Scott Derrickson’s ‘The Black Phone’ is Now a ‘Sinister’ Reunion as Ethan Hawke Joins the Cast

Scott Derrickson (Dr. Strange, Sinister) is headed back to the horror genre to direct The Black Phone for Blumhouse and Universal, and casting is now underway.

THR reports today that Ethan Hawke, who of course starred in Derrickon’s Sinister, has signed on to star. The cast also includes the previously announced Jeremy Davies (“Hannibal”).

Derrickson and frequent collaborator Robert Cargill (Bermuda, Doctor Strange, Sinister) adapted the script based on Joe Hill’s short story.

Cargill recently teased the plot, “A kidnapped kid. A creepy, soundproofed basement. An ancient, disconnected phone. Then, when night falls, the phone rings.”

“Hawke will play the kidnapper,” THR notes.

Mason Thames (For All Mankind) and Madeleine McGraw (Toy Story 4) also star.

Derrickson, Cargill and Jason Blum, for Blumhouse, are producing the film. Universal and Blumhouse will present the Crooked Highway Productions. Joe Hill is an executive producer
