[Trailer] SXSW Horror ‘The Toll’ Acquired by Lionsgate for March Release

The SXSW Film Festival was set to kick off last year in Austin, Texas, and one of the highlights of the Midnight program was The Toll, the Michael Nader-directed psychological thriller that was to hold its World Premiere.

In the film, a young woman (Jordan Hayes) and her rideshare driver (Max Topplin) break down on a dark forest road. Each sees the other as a threat. But as strange phenomena begin occurring around them, they gradually realize they’ve become trapped in the world of a terrifying supernatural being: The Toll Man.

Lionsgate announced today that The Toll arrives on Blu-ray (plus Digital) and DVD March 30th. The only extra feature is a “Paying the Toll Man” Featurette.

“The Toll attempts to kick-start a new sub-genre of horror to mixed results,” wrote Trace in his review. “Though it employs some effectively creepy imagery and two decent lead performances, it can’t manage to overcome the shortcomings of its script, which too often likes to undermine the viewer’s intelligence…don’t feel like you have to pay this toll.”

Here’s the film’s first trailer and box art.
