The Mars Volta have unveiled Landscape Tantrums, a previously unreleased eight-track collection of “unfinished original recordings” of their 2005 debut De-Loused in the Comatorium. It arrives digitally through Clouds Hill Recordings and is part of the massive 18-LP box set La Realidad de los Sueños, which was limited to 5000 copies and sold out upon its announcement in March. “Some asshole bootlegged the two-track references for this session, but the actual mixes we did back then were luckily preserved and stored in my vault for the past 20 years,” guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez previously said of the collection. “So it’s super-exciting for my engineer Jon DeBaun and me that it’s seeing a release. This was the very first thing we worked on together, and it holds a lot of great memories. And if it’s this exciting for us, we imagine it’s going to be exciting for the fans.”
Though the Mars Volta broke up in 2013, vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala has hinted at reunion plans in recent years. The group’s last album remains 2012’s Noctourniquet.
