Tales from the Darkside: The Movie director and frequent George A. Romero collaborator John Harrison has published Residue: Paramentals Rising.
Poised to be the first installment in a sci-fi horror trilogy, the 300-page novel is out today in hardcover, trade paperback, and e-book from WordFire Press.
In the aftermath of a catastrophic New Year’s Eve explosion in the heart of the city, Miki Preston embarks upon a treacherous odyssey into the devastated area known as the Quarantine Zone in search of her famous photojournalist sister, Jennifer, who has mysteriously disappeared.
With only the help of a disgraced former homicide detective, a cagey teenage street dodger, and a set of provocative photographs her sister left behind, Miki will come face to face with the manifestations of malevolent psychic energy called Paramentals—and the sinister conspiracy that created them.
Harrison first worked with Romero as the screwdriver zombie in Dawn of the Dead before composing the scores and serving as first assistant director on Creepshow and Day of the Dead. He made his directorial debut on “Tales from the Darkside” and helmed the feature film spin-off.
He went to write and direct Syfy’s Frank Herbert’s Dune miniseries, which earned him executive producer credits on Denis Villeneuve‘s recent Dune films. He returned to the comic book-inspired world of Creepshow to directed several episodes of the Shudder series.
Residue: Paramentals Rising is Harrison’s third novel, following 2013’s Destiny Gardens and 2023’s Passing Through Veils.
