While we may never get a sequel, Sony has surprised fans of their 2019 open world zombie epic Days Gone with a remaster announcement for the PlayStation 5. Climax Studios will be handling the remaster duties alongside original developer Bend Studio, with a release date of April 25.
Over at PlayStation Blog, Creative & Product Lead at Bend Studio Kevin McAllister shared some of the details for Days Gone Remastered. The remaster will feature improved graphical fidelity, increased foliage draw distance, improved shadow and lighting quality, Tempest 3D Audio, VRR support and more. The game will also feature Quality and Performance modes, new haptic feedback support, and new accessibility features.
There are also some new goodies for returning fans with Horde Assault and Permadeath modes. Horde Assault sees you facing off against increased horde sizes and various other enemies in order to try and achieve a high score while surviving as long as possible. Permadeath mode is just as it sounds: Play through the game in one single playthrough without dying. If you do meet your demise, you must either return to the beginning of the game or the start of the second act and try your luck again. Pulling it off rewards you with a special graphic recording your time it took to complete, unique stats like how many Freakers you killed during your playthrough, and more.
That’s not all, as you will also have a Speedrun mode, where you’ll need to play through the story as quickly as possible, and an Enhanced Photo Mode.
For existing owners of Days Gone, you’ll be able to upgrade to Days Gone Remastered including all new content and features for $10USD. There are also pre-order bonuses for PlayStation owners in the form of new PSN Avatars as well as five Early Unlocks.
PC fans won’t be left out on the upgrade, either. All of the new content and features will be coming to Days Gone on Steam and the Epic Games Store day-and-date as the PlayStation 5 version. You’ll need to purchase the Broken Road DLC in order to get the new content.
