UPDATE (8:50 p.m. ET): Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have released a video pleading for the safe return of their beloved mother, Nancy Guthrie.

Savannah is asking the person or persons who abducted her mother to please get in touch with the family and provide proof of life. Reading from a statement, the family attempts to appeal to the good nature of whoever took their mother by mentioning her age, her medical needs, and how deeply loved she is by her children and grandchildren, pleading for her safe and immediate return.

“Our mom is a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman,” said Savannah in the video. “She has grandchildren that adore her, and crowd about her, and cover her with kisses.”

“The light is missing from our lives,” said Savannah’s sister, Annie.

“We are ready to talk,” said Savannah before asking for proof of life.

The family then sent Nancy a message of love in case she is able to see the video. “We pray for the day we can hold you in our arms again.”

“We have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case,” a spokesperson tells TMZ. “Detectives continue to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results.”

Original Story:

There is an explosive new development in the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, as a former CNN and NewsNation journalist has named Savannah’s brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, as a potential suspect.

Ashleigh Banfield, who previously hosted Banfield on NewsNation, shared some information she said she had received from a “law enforcement source.” Speaking on her podcast, Drop Dead Serious, Banfield says she was told that authorities have seized a car belonging to Savannah’s sister, Annie.

She added that the source claimed there was some connection between the car and Annie’s husband, Cioni, who the police may be treating as a “prime suspect” in the case.

Banfield made it clear that “these are just musings and not evidence,” while also noting that it’s normal for families to be vetted in cases of this nature.

The veteran reporter also stated that Annie was the last person to have seen Nancy on Saturday night (January 31). Annie reportedly had dinner with Nancy that night, but it’s not known if Cioni was also present.

Banfield added that the cameras in Nancy’s home had been “smashed.” Police previously confirmed that a doorbell camera on Nancy’s property had been removed.

FBI agents were spotted at Savannah Guthrie’s sister Annie’s home on Tuesday, according to Page Six.

TMZ reported on Tuesday (February 3) that its journalists received an alleged ransom note. The note promised to return Nancy to her family in exchange for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, valued in the “millions.”

Nancy’s family reported her missing on Sunday, February 1, after she failed to attend her regular Sunday church service. Savannah has since taken a hiatus from Today and dropped out of covering Friday’s (February 6) 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
