Yee-haw, it’s time for love and philosophy out on the range. Desire requires an enormous expanse to express itself. There’s a hip spaciousness to the music on “Cowboy Dreams”, the first single from Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter Boy Golden’s forthcoming album Best of Our Possible Lives, out 13th February 2026, via Six Shooter. The title dream is part reverie, part fantasy, and part aspiration, in all senses of the word.
Boy Golden is joined on vocals by fellow Canuck Cat Clyde on this fantastic tune. They take things slowly and explore surreal definitions of love over a deep psychedelic groove and a heavy bass beat. Their vocals enrapture as well as capture the essence of what it feels like when two people connect. They tell each other to go ahead and eat the pumpkin pie and the Cool Whip, baby. That’s how tasty their melt-in-the-mouth love is.
Meanwhile, the instrumentation evokes the sound of a pounding heart during REM sleep, often associated with restless leg syndrome. One can’t stop shaking, and there is no relief. Dream on and enjoy the ride.
