Planet B (Justin Pearson and Luke Henshaw) enlist Johnny Whitney of the Blood Brothers for guest vocals on “War’s Coming Home”, a monumental blast of industrial fury with lyrics that recall the provocations of Whitney’s best-known project. From the opening lines, shrieked by Whitney, “Fake ass GI Joe / I-C-E war’s coming home”, the song appropriately captures the current hellscape. It spirals from there, ruthlessly taunting those involved and slapping the rest of us in the face with lines like “And when you start screaming in traffic / What do you tell your kids?”
Pearson and Henshaw pile on aggressive synths and an unexpected xylophone hook to create a rousing middle finger of a track. In an environment where so few artists are speaking out, Pearson is an under-appreciated anomaly who has built a career of intelligent provocation across several projects, from the Locust to Satanic Planet to Deaf Club to Retox to Dead Cross to Head Wound City, which also features Whitney and Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. He has accumulated a discography that impressively hangs together without becoming repetitive, and this is yet another powerful entry.
