Hacked: A Double Entendre Of Rage Fueled Karma Movie Review by Matt Boiselle
Hacked: A Double Entendre Of Rage Fueled Karma – written and directed by Shane Brady, and starring Owen Atlas, Augie Duke and Chandler Riggs
Synopsis: In 2021, ordinary people Shane Brady and Emily Zercher were hacked and $20,000 was stolen – the story begins based on those true events. The rest? What we WISH we could have done to that bastard.
There’s something oddly refreshing about a movie that knows exactly what it wants to be. “Hacked: A Double Entendre Of Rage Fueled Karma”, directed by Shane Brady, takes a frustratingly relatable real-life situation and turns it into a chaotic blend of revenge fantasy, dark comedy, and blood-soaked catharsis. Inspired by actual events in which Brady and Emily Zercher were hacked and robbed of $20,000, the film opens with a grounded premise before quickly spiraling into something much more outrageous — and honestly, that’s where the movie finds its groove. The “what we wish we could have done” angle gives the story permission to go completely off the rails in the best possible way. Fans of horror-comedy will probably appreciate the movie’s self-awareness. It never pretends to be prestige horror, nor does it try to overcomplicate its message. Instead, it leans hard into absurdity, revenge, and the kind of unfiltered anger most people would probably feel after being financially violated online. There’s an energy to the film that keeps it moving, even when some of the humor gets intentionally ridiculous.
Chandler Riggs brings some recognizable star power to the cast, and horror fans will undoubtedly enjoy seeing him in a project that allows him to play around in a much more comedic and unhinged environment compared to what audiences may know him from previously. The performances across the board fit the film’s tone well — exaggerated when needed, but still committed enough to keep the insanity entertaining rather than exhausting. Where “Hacked” works best is in its unapologetic commitment to the bit. The movie understands that cybercrime is a uniquely modern nightmare, and instead of approaching it with dry realism, it weaponizes frustration into over-the-top genre fun. Not every joke lands, and some moments definitely feel rough around the edges, but there’s a scrappy charm to the entire production that makes it hard not to root for.
At the end of the day, “Hacked: A Double Entendre Of Rage Fueled Karma” is exactly the kind of late-night indie horror-comedy that thrives on personality more than polish. It’s messy, angry, weird, occasionally brutal, and surprisingly fun once you settle into its chaotic wavelength. If you’re into revenge-driven horror-comedies with indie spirit and a sense of humor twisted by internet-age paranoia, this one is worth checking out.
The film is set to be unleased on VOD services on June 2nd from S&R Films
