Allison Janney sent some love to Savannah Guthrie and her family at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
The actress took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series at the Monday, September 14, awards ceremony for her role as President Grace Penn on The Diplomat. On the Tuesday, September 15, episode of Today, Willie Geist (who filled in for Craig Melvin) highlighted a special backstage moment involving Janney and a reporter.
“Alison Janney took home the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series,” Geist stated. “After accepting the award, the star spoke to reporters backstage in a moment we couldn’t help but notice.”
In a clip from a post-win interview, a reporter praised Janney for supporting Savannahafter her mother,Nancy Guthrie, disappearedearlier this year. “The last time we spoke with Lee Rose, when Savannah Guthrie’s mother was kidnapped, your compassion and your concern was so overwhelming, and we’re so grateful for that, Alison, first of all,” the reporter stated.
In response, Janney said, “I honestly can say I think about her every day and think about the loss and what Savannah and her family are going through. It truly, it just took over. I felt … and I don’t think I’m alone, too. I think all of America was thinking about her.”
Back in Today‘s Studio 1A, Geist called Janney’s comments a “beautiful expression of sympathy.” Savannah, for her part, said she was “so touched” that Janney used her moment of “triumph” to send love her way.
“For her to sit and just take a moment and think about our family — which I never let a moment pass if I get one to talk about my mom, and how much we love her and miss her, and my whole family, my sister and my brother and I, and all of our extended families are in such pain,” she said. “We need help. So, thank you, Allison Janney, for remembering us and for giving an opportunity for me to renew that call. We just want our mom home [to] give her a proper goodbye. That’s all.”
Geist concluded the discussion by reminding Today viewers to call 1-800-CALL-FBI with any information related to Nancy’s case, and noted that Savannah and her family’s $1 million reward is still in place.
“You can call anonymously, too,” Savannah added before pleading, “Our family needs you. Thanks.” Al Roker chimed in, stating, “Allison Janney speaks for almost everybody out there in America, so we appreciate her bringing that to us.”

Nancy was abducted from her Arizona home in February, and authorities have yet to name any suspects in the ongoing investigation. Reports of ransom notes sent by Nancy’s abductors alleged she died shortly after her kidnapping.
According to a new report from Page Six, security has reportedly increased on the Today set after Nancy’s disappearance and a backstage intruder incident in July.
