The Angels are back together.
Nearly 50 years after Charlie’s Angels became a television phenomenon, Cheryl Ladd, Jaclyn Smith, and Kate Jackson reunited at the 78th Emmy Awards to present one of the biggest honors of the night: Outstanding Drama Series.
The reunion is especially significant because it brings together three of the women who helped define one of television’s most recognizable franchises. Jackson and Smith were part of the original 1976 cast alongside Farrah Fawcett, while Ladd joined in Season 2 following Fawcett’s departure, playing Jill Munroe’s younger sister, Kris, and remained with the series through its 1981 finale. Smith was the only Angel to appear in all five seasons.
Their Emmy appearance offers a rare chance to see the three surviving stars together while celebrating a show that became a pop culture phenomenon and helped put women at the center of a hugely successful primetime action series. And having the Angels return to hand out the award for television’s top drama nearly half a century after their own series premiered makes the moment particularly fitting.
On the stage, the first order of the business to was honor the missing Angel, the “shiniest Angel of them all.”
“It’s an honor to be here tonight to present the Emmy for Drama Series,” said Kate Jackson.
“And to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Charlie’s Angels,” said Cheryl Ladd.
“And I would like to acknowledge someone not standing with us tonight, and that’s my friend Farrah Fawcett,” commented Jaclyn Smith. “As I’ve said many times, Charisma doesn’t need a second season; she’s here, and she’s here with us in everyone’s collective memory.”
“Farrah was the shiniest Angel of all, and she was loved by millions of people all over the world, and she still is today. And they’ll never forget her, and neither will we, and I’m sure you won’t either,” replied Jackson.
“And her iconic poster lives in the mines and the garages of many a man,” finished Ladd.
The trio then introduced the nominees for Best Drama before awarding the prize to The Pitt.
