It’s been a memorable few weeks for comics, and not always in a good way, I’m sorry to say. Here are a few of the top newsmakers.

News From DC and Marvel

  • DC Comics abruptly cancelled Gretchen Felker-Martin’s Red Hood series after she failed to show due deference to a dead Nazi. In an interview with The Comics Journal, Felker-Martin said she regrets nothing.
  • Film icon Robert Redford passed away on September 16. He played many incredible characters over the years, but superhero fans may remember him most fondly as Alexander Pierce in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
  • Disney and WEBTOON are collaborating on a new digital comics platform. More details forthcoming, but yes, some of Disney’s biggest IPs will be available there.
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now available digitally and will soon be available on physical media.
  • Daredevil: Born Again is getting a third season.
  • In a podcast interview, writer Greg Rucka discussed how certain individuals at DC made his life miserable when he was working there in the late 2000s, and how the company has changed since. (TW: Mention of suicidal ideation)
  • While at Fan Expo Chicago, the stars of The CW’s The Flash (that’s a lot of “the”) discussed how they came to find their characters during the early days of the show’s run.
