Country star receives two-year suspended sentence and “seven days incarceration in a DUI education center” for throwing chairs off roof of Eric Church’s bar
Morgan Wallen‘s chair-throwing drama has finally reached its conclusion as the country star pleaded guilty to reduced charges Thursday stemming from the incident.
Prior to Thursday’s hearing — which was moved from general sessions court to criminal court, The Tennessean reported, forecasting an end to the case — the charges against Wallen were reduced from low-level felonies to two two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon.
Each count carried a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in prison and a $500 fine, the judge said. However, the judge accepted the plea agreement and instead gave Wallen a two-year suspended sentence except for “seven days incarceration in a DUI education center,” followed by “supervised probation” for two years. As a first-time offender, if Wallen adheres to his probation, he can later “expunge” the misdemeanor convictions from his record.
In April, Wallen was arrested on three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one disorderly conduct misdemeanor after allegedly throwing a chair off the sixth-story roof of Eric Church’s new bar and honky-tonk, Chief’s. According to an arrest report, the chair landed on the street right next to a group of Nashville cops. When asked about the incident, staff at the bar pointed the finger at Wallen, and authorities reportedly also saw a video of Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof.”
About a week later Wallen addressed the arrest on social media, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change.”
