Directed by Anthony Mandler and starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Monster tells the story of 17-year-old honors student Steve Harmon. Steve had the world ahead of him. That comes crashing down when he’s charged with felony murder. The film will follow him from being a smart, likable high school student to battling for his life inside the court system. In addition to Harrison, Monster stars Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Ehle, Rakim Mayers, Nasir ‘Nas’ Jones, Tim Blake Nelson, and John David Washington.
This Monster is based off of the young adult novel of the same name by Walter Dean Myers. The award-winning novel is notable for its mixture of both third-person screenplay and first-person diary entries. Mandler’s film originally debuted in 2018 during the Sundance Film Festival. Monster will finally be released on Netflix Friday, May 7.
