An ‘Empowered’ Carly Pearce Sets a Cheater’s ‘Truck on Fire’ in New Video

Carly Pearce released the cinematic video for her single “Truck on Fire” on Monday, which captures her committing arson — but perhaps her victim deserved it.

“I wrote ‘Truck on Fire’ with Charles Kelley of Lady A, and we really just wanted to write a song that was an anthem for women, to feel empowered, if they’ve ever gone through a heartbreak,” Pearce tells Rolling Stone. “It was a very easy song to write. I love the play on words of this song.”

The Alexa Campbell-directed video sees cops pulling up to a gas station where Pearce, the wanted arsonist, may have purchased the supplies to set an ex’s truck on fire. The video then pans to Pearce hours earlier, driving a red convertible Mustang down dirt roads before showing up at the gas station to buy all “gas in a small red can” and a few matches.

“Liar, liar, truck on fire/Flames rolling off of your Goodyear tires,” sings Pearce on the track. “Burn, burn, you’re gonna learn/Never should’ve put your lips on her.”

Pearce says she was happy to stretch her acting muscles and “show a different side of my personality, a more silly and fun side” in the video. “The only thing I can remember is that it was almost 100 degrees outside, and I had to take five showers during the process of making the video,” she jokes.

The production also saw Pearce reconnect with video director Campbell, who also led her CMT Award-winning “We Don’t Fight Anymore.”

“I always love the way that she’s able to capture a storyline and bring it to life,” Pearce says. “I feel like she knows me so well and is able to capture a side of my personality that people haven’t seen yet.”

Pearce is currently on her Hummingbird World Tour, with stops scheduled in Tampa, Miami, and through Canada through November. She’ll return stateside in March to continue her tour. “Fans can expect the most ‘me’ tour that I’ve ever put on – from the set design to the instrumentation, to the setlist, I’m really proud,” she says.
