‘Wicked’ Leads Broadway Box Office Again With $2.8M; ‘Death Becomes Her’ Scores Best-Yet $1.4M

Broadway settled back down to some post-Thanksgiving normalcy last week, dropping about 9% to $42,021,721 from the holiday high of the previous week. Attendance held strong at 309,802 for the week ending December 8.

Wicked was, once again, the roster’s top earner, grossing $2,782,795 and besting both The Lion King ($2,489,493) and Hamilton ($2,030,772).

In its final week, Tammy Faye was up by more than $111,000 to $371,511, even though fewer than half the seats at the Palace were filled. Water For Elephants also ended its run, grossing $957,672 with attendance at 66% of capacity at the Imperial.

Three productions were in previews last week:

  • Cult of Love at the Hayes, grossing $299,320 with attendance at 90%; opening December 12;
  • Eureka Day at the Friedman, grossing $227,533 for 7 previews, at 73% of capacity; opening December 16;
  • Gypsy took in $1,602,650 for 7 previews, with 95% of seats at the Majestic filled; opening December 19.

Other productions hitting the $1 million mark were: & Juliet, Aladdin, Back to the Future, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Death Becomes Her (scoring its highest gross yet with $1,366,007), Elf, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hell’s Kitchen, MJ, Oh, Mary!, Suffs, Sunset Blvd., The Book of Mormon, The Great Gatsby and The Outsiders. The week’s sell-outs were Oh, Mary!, The Outsiders and Wicked.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 29th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $948,462,012, up about 14% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 7,656,693 also up about 14%.
