Live: Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Share Son Michaels Birth Story

What To Know

  • Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos celebrated their eldest son Michael’s 29th birthday on Live With Kelly and Mark.
  • The couple reminisced about Michael’s birth story and another hospital patient’s scary experience that same day.
  • Michael made a surprise appearance on Live earlier this year to celebrate Ripa’s 25th anniversary on the show.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos kicked off the Tuesday, June 2, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark by celebrating a special occasion.

“Good morning! Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Today is our eldest son Michael‘s birthday,” Consuelos stated at the top of the show. “Happy Birthday, Michael!” Ripa exclaimed, while Consuelos added, “Happy Birthday, Mikey!”

Recalling the text she sent Michael that morning, Ripa shared, “I said, ‘Remember, you weren’t born until 7:17 p.m., so technically, it’s not your birthday yet. You haven’t made your grand entrance yet.’”

Consuelos noted that Ripa always gives their kids a “speech” about their actual birth times every year on their birthdays. (Michael is the eldest of the couple’s three kids, including their daughter, Lola, and younger son, Joaquin.)

“He’s 29! You have a 29-year-old!” Consuelos remarked, to which Ripa hilariously retorted, “So do you!”

The couple went on to recall the story of Michael’s birthday. “I remember, I was watching Entertainment Tonight when they were like, ‘Ready to have a baby?’ And I was like, ‘OK, can we wait ‘til this episode’s over?’” Ripa joked. Consuelos, for his part, noted that Ripa had a “very long labor” and that the two had to sleep at the hospital overnight.

While the couple didn’t go into further detail about Ripa’s labor, her experience was not as difficult as that of another of the hospital’s patients. “I remember hearing someone having a baby on the floor,” Consuelos shared. Ripa remembered, too, adding, “The woman in the hallway, [she] gave birth in the hallway, [she] got to the hospital too late for an epidural and was in active labor.”

Ripa continued, “I remember thinking I had gotten to the hospital too early, but then, I heard that, and I was like, ‘Just in time! I got here in the nick of time!’ We both woke up. It woke us both up, and I was fully under the haze of an epidural. I was feeling nothing, but I felt that.”

Ripa and Consuelos’ children have made a handful of appearances on Live over the years, and the couple frequently talks about their kids on the show. Back in February, Michael surprised Ripa on-air during her 25th anniversary special episode of Live.

When asked to share his favorite memories from Live, Michael told Ripa, “There’s so many, but if I had to narrow it down to just a handful, I’d say the swamp tour in Louisiana where I threw the snake on you. That was pretty good. That was pretty awesome. You also almost jumped out of the boat, which is pretty funny. The cooking segments, all the family holiday specials we did together, and the cherry on top, winning the golden wiener.”

Ripa was delighted to have her son with her on her big day. “I’m just looking at you, and I’m like, ‘I can’t believe you’re here,’” she gushed on the show. “It’s such a nice surprise.”
