Jurriaan immediately put off a few women in the pods when he revealed that he has two cats. When one woman mentioned she was allergic, he made it very clear that he wasn’t going to give up his cats. Thankfully, Mika was more than happy to sign up to be their cat mom! The pair hit it off and progressed quickly, until they suddenly hit a very serious bump in the road.

While discussing their names, Mika decided not to reveal her surname because she didn’t want to give away her ethnicity. Jurriaan was confused and said he had assumed she was just Dutch. When Mika asked whether it would matter if she wasn’t, Jurriaan replied: “I wouldn’t fall for a fully Black woman, you know?”
Yikes.
Mika was understandably disappointed, and not just because the comment directly applied to her. “Babe, didn’t you say you fall for the person?” she asked.
“Yeah, that’s what matters,” Jurriaan replied.
The exchange left Mika questioning what she had been told about him. Jurriaan didn’t seem to understand why she suddenly became distant, while Mika felt his comment directly contradicted what he had previously said about falling for someone based on who they are. Naturally, that left her wondering what else might not be true.
In a confessional, Mika explained just how deeply the comment affected her: “It hits me pretty hard because I’ve been rejected for that in the past, that people might have had a certain prejudice against me, maybe they had a certain idea because I have a different skin color — and that doesn’t work for me.”
Despite the awkward conversation, they still got engaged. The internet, however, has not been quite so quick to move on. Viewers have been calling out Jurriaan’s comment and questioning how Mika could overlook what he said.
When they finally met face-to-face, things seemed much more positive, with Mika particularly appreciating Jurriaan’s height. They survived the multiple breakups happening around them, with their biggest conflict being that Jurriaan never got Mika flowers despite her frequent requests. Is it really that hard?
Then came a huge argument which saw Mika walking away from him for some space. But the pair reunited, and Mika even told Jurriaan that she loves him, although he wasn’t quite ready to say it back just yet. The pair even sealed the deal in bed, something they’d been waiting to do.
At their wedding, both eagerly said “I do” and Jurriaan chose that moment to finally tell Mika he loves her. Look, we’re quite surprised given what went down in the pods, so we need that reunion episode pronto to hear how they’ve perceived all the online backlash.
