Megyn Kelly shocked her viewers on Tuesday (October 13) when she said she thinks former CNN host Don Lemon should run for president.
The former Fox News anchor made the surprising endorsement on The Megyn Kelly Show, where she encouraged Lemon to go for it. This came after Lemon admitted he’d consider a transition into politics during a recent appearance on the Uncloseted podcast.
“When I’m out there, [people] are not only saying ‘thank you’ for what I’m doing, they say, ‘Would you ever consider running for office?’” Lemon said. “And I say, ‘Well, I’ve thought about it,’ and they say, ‘Would you ever run for president?’ And I said, ‘I definitely think I could be a better president than Donald Trump.’”
As for how serious he is about the idea, the longtime reporter said, “If people want me, I’ll do it. If that’s the best way for me to help the American people, then sure, I’ll do it.
When asked to give a percentage chance of the likelihood of running for president one day, Lemon answered, “What percentage chance? 65-70.”
“Okay, I’m going to shock you,” Kelly said in response to the clip. “I think he should do it! I actually think he should do it. First of all, it’s not a dealbreaker that he has spent his life as a journalist. I mean, you could absolutely parlay that into a career in public service.”
She continued, “Second of all, do you really thinkKamala Harrisis a lot smarter than Don Lemon? Do you? I know she was at least a lawyer. She was an attorney general for the state of California. No, I don’t believe so. Do you thinkJoe Bidenwas? I don’t.”
“Are we so enamored with our public officials now, we don’t think somebody like Don Lemon could do it?” Kelly added. “Honestly, I’m not. I actually think, yeah, he could match wits against AOC [Rep.Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] just fine.”
Kelly wondered if Lemon would run his campaign from his podcast booth, saying, “That would be interesting to watch.”
“All I can say is, it would certainly give us a lot to talk about, so I encourage him, and I’m rooting for him,” she concluded.
