Born Kim Van Hee, Kim Kay exploded onto the European pop scene in 1998 with “Lilali,” the irresistible Eurodance track that became her signature hit and introduced her to audiences throughout Belgium, France and beyond.
The success opened the door to an EMI recording career, more singles, television appearances and acting work.
Then life changed dramatically.
Following a cervical cancer diagnosis in 2004, Kim endured numerous operations and serious complications that ultimately left her bedridden. The recording studios, television sets and live performances that had once been part of everyday life suddenly seemed impossibly far away.
But Kim Kay never stopped being an artist.
Technology eventually gave her a path back to the thing she loved. Working remotely and collaborating with producers, she began creating and recording new music despite the enormous physical challenges she continued to face.
Then came another remarkable chapter.
In 2026, Kim returned to the top of the French dance charts with “Summer Again,” proving that the audience that had embraced her decades earlier was still there — and that a new generation was discovering her music as well.
Now she’s taking another turn with “ANIMAL.”
KIM KAY GETS WILD
“ANIMAL” isn’t nostalgic Eurodance dressed up for a new decade.
The track explores attraction, fantasy and desire from the perspective of a woman who has absolutely no interest in pretending those feelings disappear with age or experience.
Kim has said the inspiration came from her own late-night fantasies, and that personal connection gives the song much of its personality.
There’s humor in it. There’s sexuality. There’s confidence.
Most importantly, there’s freedom.
Kim isn’t trying to become the young woman who sang “Lilali” again. She’s making music as the woman she is now — carrying decades of experience, success, heartbreak, humor, scars and survival with her.

There would have been plenty of places for Kim Kay’s story to end.
It could have ended after the chart hits.
It could have ended after illness dramatically changed her life.

Even while confined to bed, she continued finding ways to write, record and collaborate. Instead of allowing her physical circumstances to determine whether she could still create, she adapted the way she made music.
And nearly three decades after “Lilali” first introduced Kim Kay to Europe, she is still releasing songs capable of showing audiences another side of her.
That may be the most interesting part of the Kim Kay story today.
She isn’t asking people to remember who she used to be.
