“Constantine”: J.J. Abrams Producing a Dark Reboot for HBO Max

It was rumored and now it’s been confirmed. J.J. Abrams is developing a new take on “Constantine,” with the planned series being set up at HBO Max, Deadline reports today.

Guy Bolton is set to write the project, and the site notes that it’s a “darker reboot.”

The series “will see John Constantine as a young Londoner.” Deadline also notes in their report that “the character is set to be cast as a diverse lead.”

The DC character had of course first been played by Keanu Reeves in 2005’s Constantine. Matt Ryan brought the character to the small screen in 2014 with NBC’s short-lived “Constantine.” He has continued to play him in various other live action & animated projects.

Abrams is producing via Bad Robot. He’s also behind “Justice League Dark” for HBO Max.
