Review:
I was fascinated when I found out about MOBLAND. MOBLAND was created by Ronan Bennett. It stars Ton Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Helen Mirren. The directors include: Anthony Byrne, Lawrence Gough, Guy Ritchie (who has directed quite a few calm, cool, and collected “Gangster” related films), and Daniel Syrkin. The writers include, Ronan Bennett, and Jez Butterworth.
MOBLAND starts, and we meet the calm and collected, Harry Da Souza portrayed by Tom Hardy. If you never watched TABOO, DO IT NOW. Don’t ask questions, it’s streaming, go watch it. We meet the Harrigan family, Conrad Harrigan portrayed by Pierce Brosnan. This is a different performance for Pierce Brosnan, at least to me. I think of him and think of the James Bond films, Mrs. Doubtfire… It’s fascinating to see this side of him. Paddy Considine who plays Kevin Harrigan. Paddy is SO BEYOND TALENTED. Eddie Harrigan played by Anson Boon; I don’t like him already. Ohhh that Kray Twins comment… LEGEND was another great film where Tom Hardy portrayed both of the Kray Twins, and they are quite infamous.
I’m digging the soundtrack. We get Prodigy right away. Eddie PUSHES. He pushes limits, rules, what he is supposed to be doing versus acting like an asshole because of a last name. Did he not watch THE GODFATHER, Michael Corleone WOULD NEVER.
I appreciate Tom Hardy’s calmness. A calm, cool, and collected person is so dangerous compared to the loud, mouth running people. Joanne Froggatt portrays Jan Da Souza, she isn’t exactly a “Mob Wife” according to rules. She doesn’t want to know anything, she wants couples therapy, and they have an angsty teenage daughter Gina, portrayed by Teddie Allen.
Maeve Harrigan portrayed lovely, conniving, and slightly snake-like by Helen Mirren. She does a lot of twist and turns speaking. She places ideas where they do not need to be. The show is good. It has its moments. I would say watch it. The end of the last episode will certainly have people on the edge of their seats.
