Wyatt Flores Pens a ‘Love Letter to Love Lost’ on Tender New Song ‘Milwaukee’

Emerging Oklahoma singer shares first new original song since his breakout 2023 EP Life Lessons

Rising Oklahoma singer Wyatt Flores is back with the tender breakup track “Milwaukee,” one of the first new songs since the release of his 2023 breakout EP Life Lessons.

“Milwaukee is for all the times that you’ve loved someone but didn’t fully love them. It’s a love letter to love lost with the clarity of mistakes made,” Flores said in a statement. “We all hope that our mistakes don’t define us, and Milwaukee is about just that. Love is an action, and if you don’t work to hold onto it, it’ll slip through your fingers.”

“Somewhere in Milwaukee / There’s snow covering concrete / And I still see you walking away,” Flores sings on the opening verse. “And I tried to say I’m sorry / That frozen rain kept falling / And I couldn’t find the words make you stay.” Later on the track, Flores begs of his ex, “Please don’t hate my heart.”

“Milwaukee” was written by Flores with Graham Barham, Gavin Lucas, and Cole Miracle and marks Flores’ first new music since Life Lessons; as a Christmas present to fans, he dropped his rendition of the Fray’s “How to Save a Life,” which he’d previously performed in concert.

As Rolling Stone noted in 2023, Flores’ meteoric rise has seen the singer — who still hasn’t released a full-length album — go from playing a sold-out show at Nashville club the Basement East in August to booking two nights at the Ryman Auditorium in December.

As the press release accompanying “Milwaukee” notes, the track is the “first taste” of a batch of planned new music this year. Before then, Flores has embarked on his mostly sold out Life Lessons 2024 Tour, which started last night in Tampa and runs through May 10, and includes a gig at Indio, California’s Stagecoach.
